What influenced you to study and practice Sports Massage?
We as a family have always been interested in sport and have received a lot of physio/massage/osteopathy treatment, from my boys having Cranial Osteopathy as babies all the way up to my husband and I being treated for various sports related injuries. When my daughter started competing quite seriously at gymnastics I realised there were not many practitioners who would offer sports massage to teenage athletes and so I started looking into the course. I toyed with it for a few years before finally committing last year. We are a ‘sporty’ family so we are involved in lots of different sports and activities and sport has always played an important part of our lives. Going back to uni was a bit of a shock!
Where did you study Sports Massage Therapy?
I studied at St Marys University in Twickenham and I am now back there studying for my Level 4 Sports Massage.
How would you describe your treatment style?
I would say my style is not fixed yet and constantly evolving depending on who I am treating and the issue I’m treating! I am quite tenacious if something needs fixing I adapt my style to the individual.
Can you tell us something about yourself?
I was born in Italy, my greatest achievement other that having my amazing children is completing the Sahara challenge in 2001. I have a dog named Harley, 2 year old GSD who needs about 200 million hours of walks a week and a cat called Loki. I was a gymnast, hockey player and kick boxer. I played football at University and support Italy at football but England at Rugby! We are a BIG rugby house and all my children play including my daughter.
What’s your background?
I used to practice as a Veterinary nurse in Windsor before entering the marketing world and helped launch a variety of well known products with clients such as Heinz, Sainsburys and Harrods. After joining the TA as a medic and meeting my partner Andy, I stepped away from working with corporates and started work as a swimming teacher after my daughter got heavily involved. As my four children grew and became more sporty they picked up more injuries, being treated by massage therapists and I realised this would be my calling. Shortly after I returned to education and gained a distinction in Sports Massage Therapy.
Lara is working on Wednesday evenings between 5pm and 8pm, offering 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute sessions. Please see the Sports Massage page for more information on how Lara could help you.
