What influenced you to study and practice Osteopathy?

I became interested in Osteopathy after I injured my neck in a collapsed scrum playing rugby. Osteopathy helped me recover and get playing again. At the time I worked in the city and sat in front of a PC for long hours so had regular maintenance treatment for a stiff neck and back. I got more and more interested in the profession. I studied at the British School of Osteopathy (now University College of Osteopathy) graduating in 1999.

How and where have you practiced Osteopathy?

Being a sportsman all my life I’ve had a keen interest in sports injuries especially rugby and skiing injuries. Ultimately to be strong at any sport you need a good athletic platform to work from and I have used osteopathy to identify weak structures and postural imbalances to help athletes identify areas to work on to improve performance, prevent further injury and achieve their goals. Having lived in the mountains for 12 years in Whistler and Chamonix I’ve had the opportunity to work with elite athletes on the Canadian national snowboard team, BC ski team, X-Game gold medal winners, winners of the Freeride World tour in skiing and snowboarding. I also worked with numerous athletes training for the Whistler Iron Man and the UTMB in Chamonix.

What is your treatment style?

I’m also very interested in the diagnosis and management of headache, migraine and post concussion syndromes. I use the best available evidence-based advice from Cephalgia (Journal of the international Headache Society, Headache (Journal of the American Headache Society) and the Journal of Head and Face Pain ( European Headache Federation) as well as regularly attending events such as the IHS and EHF conferences and the Migraine World Summit. To help patients manage these complicated disorders I also use the best available evidence found in lifestyle medicine to help patients improve their sleep, diet and stress management. Ultimately if you don’t sleep well or eat well, you’re not going to feel well. I’m also an active member of the International Headache Society, Osteopaths for progress in headache and migraine and the British Association of Lifestyle Medicine.

Along with this I use traditional structural osteopathic techniques and am also enrolled in the Sutherland College Cranial Osteopathy pathway to fellowship.

My approach is strongly patient centred with an emphasis on patient partnership to achieve your health goals.
